If you are “cooped up” somewhere, you are in a small, closed space that you cannot escape, or you feel as if you are. With everyone “cooped up” at home, wearing masks in public, and keeping our distance, we inadvertently suppressed the spread of influenza. It’s hard to be “cooped up” inside an office working when it’s sunny outside. After the snowstorm “cooped them up” for days, they were thrilled to leave the house again.
