Do the math

To “do the math” means to figure out or put together the information for yourself to come to a logical conclusion. If you’re “doing the math” in your head, or if you’re putting together the information for yourself, you may have noticed that this only adds up to a four-and-a-half-day work week. The company has defaulted on several payments and can’t get any new loans, you do the math. From this situation, you might be able to infer that the company will fail or go bankrupt.
