Ear-splitting

“Ear-splitting” means extremely loud. On the main island of Tonga, residents heard an “ear-splitting” boom, or an extremely loud boom, and then another, and another. The train’s whistle made an “ear-splitting” noise. The “ear-splitting” noise was coming from the construction site.
