Go through proper channels

In today’s episode, you heard that many people arrive in Europe to live without going through proper channels. This means, they didn’t follow the established process. When you say someone is going through an official channel or a proper channel, you mean that person is following an established procedure. Many of those who arrive in Europe have not gone through proper immigration channels, meaning they have not applied to visas or citizenship in European countries.
