The head of the pack is the leader of a group, usually in a race or a competition. Julian Alaphillippe was at the head of the pack for eleven straight stages until Egan Bernal passed him in the 19th stage. Traditionally, whoever is at the head of the pack after 20 stages is the winner of the race, since the final stage is a ceremonial ride into central Paris.
