“In the throes of” means to deal with something difficult. In the episode, we talked about how society is trying to manage people that are dealing with drug addiction, or people who are “in the throes of” an addiction. Since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus COVID-19, the world is “in the throes” of a global health crisis.
