Kill time

To “kill time” means to make time seem to pass more quickly by doing something instead of just waiting. In the episode, we describe a painting of a man in an office gazing out the window. He appears to be “killing time” instead of working. If you arrive at an appointment early, you might take a walk outside to “kill time” before the appointment starts instead of just sitting in the waiting room.
