To “live large” is to spend a lot of money on luxury goods and experiences, especially if you haven’t had access to that kind of money before. For example, if you win the lottery, you might be tempted to live large for a while: buy a new house, get a boat, go on expensive vacations, and pay for gifts for friends and family.

This term is often used disapprovingly. “The bosses lived large while lower-level employees didn’t get a raise.” This is a disapproving way of saying the bosses spent on lavish, luxury items while their employees struggled.
