Love-hate relationship

A “love-hate relationship” is having strong feelings of both love and hatred for someone or something. Studios and theater chains have a “love-hate relationship,” but they need each other. Studios and theaters love that the other helps them make money, but they hate many aspects of the process, like negotiating how to split ticket revenues. Some people have a “love-hate relationship” with ice cream: they love eating it, but they hate that it makes them gain weight.
