Mixed reviews means that some critics liked a movie, book, or other piece of artwork—but others didn’t. Sometimes, saying “mixed reviews” is a polite way of saying that many people (or critics) actually didn’t like a movie. The fan-made Harry Potter movie got mixed reviews: some people praised the special effects, but others said the acting wasn’t very good. It’s “mixed” because there are some positive opinions and some negative opinions. By contrast, the Fantastic Beasts movies got very positive reviews.
