“Not safe for work” – sometimes abbreviated to “NSFW” – is internet slang to mark online content that a viewer may not wish to be seen looking at while at work or in public places. A digital artist’s image called “CROSSROAD” sold for $6.6 million on February 24; it was a “not safe for work” illustration of a public figure with graffiti on his body. The “CROSSROAD” image is “not safe for work” because it shows a naked body with graffiti on it, so you probably wouldn’t want to open it and look at it while in public. If a friend texts you a link to an inappropriate meme, he might say that it’s “NSFW” to warn you that you should wait until you’re home to look at it.
