On the road

If you are “on the road,” you are traveling in a car, bus, or truck, and typically for a long distance or time. Jeff spent about 12 days “on the road,” or traveling, during his trip to Yellowstone National Park. He wasn’t driving for all 12 of those days, but he was traveling and away from home for 12 days. A band might be “on the road” for a music tour for several months of the year.
