“One and the same” is used for emphasis and means the same thing or person. When the Internet was first invented, cyberspace seemed like a completely separate world. Today, the online world and the real world are “one and the same,” or are completely intertwined and almost seem the same. The restaurant’s owner and head chef are “one and the same,” or are the same person.
