Packed like sardines

If a group of people are “packed like sardines,” they are sitting or standing very close together and they cannot move easily. In today’s lesson, you heard that hundreds of university students are sometimes packed like sardines into one lecture hall, or the students are tightly packed into one room. At musical festivals, people are packed like sardines at the front of the crowd to be close to the stage.
