Today you’ll hear that Jair Bolsonaro’s running mate in the Brazilian presidential campaign was a reserve general. In most countries, the final presidential candidates choose a running mate — the person who would be vice president if he or she wins the presidency. Fernando Haddad was Bolsonaro’s opponent in the election. Haddad’s running mate was a state legislator. Haddad himself had been ex-president Lula’s running mate before Lula was ruled ineligible to run.
