Ruse

A “ruse” is a trick or something that is designed to distract you from something else. In the lesson, you heard that there was no bomb on the airplane. It was all a “ruse,” elaborate theater to cover up the fact that Belarus wanted to arrest one of the passengers aboard. The relationship was just a “ruse” to distract her while her boyfriend stole her money.
