Stigma

‘Stigma’ describes the negative feelings and viewpoints toward a particular thing or characteristic. In today’s episode, you’ll hear that being HIV carries a significant social stigma; that means, many people in Chinese society think negatively about people with HIV. Around the world, mental health issues, such as depression, also carry a stigma. Many people are afraid to admit they’re in treatment for mental health problems because of the stigma.
