At last year’s Oscars, an embarrassing scene unfolded onstage when the presenters read the wrong card when presenting the Best Picture award. When a scene or situation unfolds, it means it takes place. Here’s an example: “The drama in the football game unfolded over the last two minutes, when each team scored twice.” Here’s another: “A dangerous situation unfolded downtown when a man robbed a store and then tried to steal a car.”
