You may know that to observe is to view, to watch, or to notice something. But in today’s episode, you’ll hear that many countries observe Daylight Saving Time. In this context, “observe” means “to follow a tradition” or “to celebrate.” Countries observe Daylight Saving Time change their clocks forward in the spring and back in the fall. In the United States, when a public holiday falls on a Saturday or a Sunday, that holiday is observed—or celebrated—on a Friday or a Monday. People who observe the speed limit on the roads follow the speed limit: they drive at a legal speed.
