DefinitionYour turn

A chain reaction is an event that sets of a series of related events that all depend on one another. For example, if a certain species of mosquito is eliminated, it might set off a chain reaction by affecting other species in the food chain. In a chain reaction, one initial thing happens, which causes a second effect; that second effect causes a third effect; the third causes a fourth, etc. I’m not feeling well this week, so I stayed home from work for a few days. I didn’t want to start a chain reaction by causing my coworkers to get sick, then causing them to miss meetings with clients, or for their kids to get sick, and make their teachers sick, etc. That would be a bad chain reaction!
