The Big Bang Theory is a crowd-pleaser. It’s something that is good for a big crowd because it can make a lot of people happy. But it’s not necessarily the highest quality or the most thought-out. The Big Bang Theory was on free television, so it had to appeal to a lot of people. But many of today’s great television shows are on Netflix and appeal to narrower audiences. The most popular songs on the radio are crowd-pleasers, as are the big box-office movies. The opposite of a crowd-pleaser is an artistic film.
