After seeing the haunting images of the 850-year-old cathedral ablaze in central Paris, many feared that France would lose its greatest national symbol. But while the cathedral’s spire fell and its 13th-Century roof collapsed, the main structure, including the famed limestone towers, remained intact. France’s president, Emmanuel Macron, has vowed to rebuild the cathedral within five years and Paris’s business community has pledged the funds to do so.
