Keep tabs on

To “keep tabs on” something means to routinely monitor or observe it in order to learn what it is doing. Scientists put cameras inside the abandoned structures in Chernobyl to “keep tabs on” the horses’ stats and activity. The scientists used cameras to monitor the horses. Parents usually “keep tabs on” their children. The police may “keep tabs on” a person if he/she is a suspect in a crime.
