Use “larger than life” to describe something that is extraordinary, impressive, or seemingly larger and more significant than what you would typically expect.

In today’s lesson, I said that Bob Hope was a “larger-than-life” comedian. He was a superstar performer, someone that everyone knew, and seeing him live was an extraordinary experience. Soon, Tony Bennett became a larger-than-life figure himself.

Other things that can seem larger than life: a really tall skyscraper, a concert or performance, or even a person who can command a room and garner respect or admiration.
