Lend support

When you “lend support” to something, you provide assistance or approval. Several police chiefs in large cities lent their support and joined protesters. The police chiefs approved of the protesters and joined in. There is one definition of the word “lend” that expects something to be returned, but in this case, “lend” just means to contribute or add to something. Food pantries lend support to local residents in need.
