Make sure

When you “make sure” of something, you check it to be certain about it. Pumpkin pie is a favorite on many American Thanksgiving tables, including whatever table I’m sitting at – I “make sure” of it. I like to be certain that there is pumpkin pie at my Thanksgiving dinners because I like it so much. A surgeon will “make sure” she checks a patient’s paperwork before beginning surgery to avoid making mistakes.
