Pouring rain

If it’s “pouring rain,” it’s raining heavily. In today’s story, you learned about the heat dome. The heat dome keeps rain and moisture out. But if that rain and moisture can’t fall in the heat dome, then where does it go?

It goes to areas not covered by the heat dome. Those areas experience pouring rain–very heavy rain. This year, many parts of the southern and western U.S. are in the “heat dome” and haven’t gotten rain in a long time. But in Chicago in early July, there was intense rainfall. It was pouring rain for hours.
