Stand the test of time

If something “stands the test of time,” it remains useful or valued over a long period of time. Japan’s Tokyo Toilet Project believes that public toilets must “stand the test of time,” or last for a long time. Japan doesn’t want to have to keep updating or replacing public toilets. Pop music comes and goes out of style, but classical music is known to “stand the test of time,” or is valued over longer periods of time.
